The beginning of the framing

Hello everyone,

Here we are at yet another stage of this long and what seems like a slow, but fun and rewarding process of home building.
As with most if not all business, the economy has definitely affected the builders and they are not in a position to turn down jobs right now. Consequently, they are all trying to juggle a couple or three jobs at the same time. They count on being out here and something delays that and so they take another job and are unable to get to all of them when they hoped to, then that puts the next sub out another week or two. We are having to be patient, knowing these guys are just trying to make a living and get through these tough times.
All that said, we got our framers out today, we'll have them tomorrow and then they won't be able to come back for 3 weeks. They are moving right along and that gives Dennis time to get the back fill and compacting done so the previous crew (cement and block) can come back out and do the garage.
The timing of the whole thing is more than likely going to work out perfectly...........imagine that!
Like we said in an earlier blog, not ours but God's.
We have had the pleasure and privilege of meeting some very nice people and finding out a little bit about their lives. Enjoying that part of the process as well.
Today we met Romero (the owner) of "West Point Construction", his father, brother-in-law and friend Carlos. Romero is the only one who speaks English so he is the only one we were able to talk to but the language barrier was broken a few times with smiles and laughs about something funny that happened.
I saw "papa" walking around the garden, taking in all that was going on in there so it dawned on me that they would probably love some of my tomatoes. As I had planned to go down and pick some for more sauce making, I took a couple of boxes with me and picked two loads for them and set it by their truck and told Romero they were for them to take home. They were very appreciative and................(not my reason for doing it) but it helped thin out my crop, hahaha. I'm not sure I can actually thin it out, seems that for every one I pick, I have two more to replace it the next day. YIKES! What have I done?
Anyway, they are gone for the day but will be back bright and early tomorrow morning and we look forward the seeing how far they get.
These are the pictures thus far. See you all again tomorrow.

Making some measurements on the walls.

They had a good system going for measuring, cutting and putting together. Obviously this is the wall facing the meadow.

The large opening will have a single garage door on it, that corner will be the shop. Then there is a man door which from the meadow side will go into what we'd like to finish as the the bunkroom for the grandchildren. It also has three windows, two toward the meadow and one on the side.

Partially done but this was their stopping place.

From the top looking down but I WON'T get too close to the edge so you really can't see down in there. That is a nice 10 ft. drop down there and you all know me with heights and edges. Don't do them!

Very cool! Can't wait to see what kind of progress they make today. And WOW, add two more floors on top of that??? That is a big house (I know I keep saying that, but it IS)
